FAA Clears Boeing's Largest 737 MAX Model After Software Glitch
Boeing has received clearance from the FAA to certify its largest 737 MAX model after a software glitch was deemed non-safety related.
The issue, which affects the MAX 7 and MAX 10, relates to a missed approach causing vertical navigation problems in the flight management system (FMS). The problem arises when pilots override the system, but indications to the crew remain clear.
WestJet first reported the issue in 2024, but instead of rewriting the software, Boeing will inform customers about how to recognize and cope with it through a letter.
The MAX 10 has accumulated over 1,400 orders, while the 7 has been ordered by Southwest Airlines for its lower productivity routes. The airline had anticipated receiving the aircraft, which can seat up to 178 passengers, but now faces further delays.
