FIP Demands Probe into Boeing 787 Electrical Systems in Air India Crash Investigation

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has written to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) requesting a comprehensive evaluation of electrical system evidence related to Boeing 787 planes in the investigation into the Air India crash.

The crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when an Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 242 people on board, crashed into a medical hostel and its canteen complex in Ahmedabad, killing 241 people onboard and 19 on the ground. A lone passenger survived.

FIP's letter to AAIB, dated September 18, also suggested that a detailed examination of all electrical and electronically controlled systems should be an important component of the investigation, given concerns about electrical system reliability and the central role played by electrical architecture in the B787 design philosophy.
