Gemini App Gets Interactive Map Tool and Simplified Shortcut Access
Google's Gemini app has been quietly receiving updates over the past week. One of the most significant changes is the introduction of an interactive Map tool, which allows users to access local information with ease.
The new Map feature can be accessed by tapping on a new icon at the bottom menu bar in the Gemini app. This opens a live map view centered on the user's current location, allowing them to pinch to zoom, drag the pin around, or use the search bar to select a different city.
Once a location is pinpointed, users can ask for local information such as food spots, day trips, or neighborhood tips without having to type out long street names or coordinates. The Map feature has already begun rolling out to most Android and iOS users worldwide.
In addition to the new Map tool, Google is also introducing a simplified way of accessing shortcuts and integrations using the '@' symbol. Users can now type '@' to access a menu showing their custom Skills, shortcuts to build new ones, and active Connectors.
