Google Ads Adds Documentation for Testing AI Max Against DSAs

Google Ads has added new documentation on how to test AI Max against Dynamic Search Ads (DSAs) using experiments. The company recommends two methods for testing AI Max: custom experiments and experiment templates.

To set up a custom experiment, users can select the 'Upgrade campaign' option when configuring their draft campaign's dynamic search ads settings. This will ensure that the test campaign upgrades to AI Max when the experiment launches.

When applying results, users can choose to update their original campaign or convert the experiment to a new campaign. If auto-apply is enabled, winning variations will upgrade to the base campaign automatically.

The company also notes that campaigns made up entirely of dynamic ad groups (100% DSA) cannot use templated experiments. However, mixed campaigns with both dynamic and standard ad groups can use templated experiments, but only the non-DSA ad groups will be upgraded to AI Max in the treatment arm.
