Google-Backed Industry Group Seeks to Set Own AI Safety Standards
Google's parent company Alphabet Inc., OpenAI, and Anthropic are teaming up to create an industry-led AI safety standards body without government oversight.
The planned group, which would be called the Standards Authority for Frontier AI (SAFA), aims to set standards for testing and reporting AI safety issues.
Members of the working group have considered high-profile names such as Sriram Krishnan, Arati Prabhakar, Condoleezza Rice, and David Friedberg for leadership positions.
While some company representatives remain optimistic about a future relationship with the U.S. government, the current plan is for SAFA to operate independently.
