Google DeepMind Unveils AlphaGenome Atlas: A New Era in Genetic Research
Google DeepMind has introduced AlphaGenome Atlas, a platform that predicts the molecular impact of every possible single-letter DNA variant in the human genome. This comprehensive catalogue contains predictions for 9 billion variants and is available through an intuitive and free-to-use website portal.
The team behind AlphaGenome Atlas has built on their previous work with AlphaGenome, an artificial intelligence model that can predict how genetic variants impact biological processes. By precomputing AlphaGenome's predictions at scale, they have created a massive 1-petabyte dataset that is more than 30 times larger than the AlphaFold Database.
The platform includes several powerful resources, including molecular effect predictions, AVI scores, and DNA sequence motifs. These tools allow researchers to link variants directly to the functional DNA sequences they disrupt and explore a vast dataset in an intuitive way.
AlphaGenome Atlas has already been used by external collaborators to identify key variants in unsolved rare disease research and find rare variants associated with common traits. The platform provides a high-resolution, global view of the genome and is expected to accelerate our understanding of biology and treat disease.
