Google Installs Outdoor Sculpture, Historic Building Fined for Cooling Violation

Google's Loop headquarters is getting a major outdoor sculpture called Vector, created by artist Sanford Biggers. The piece will be composed of glazed terra cotta panels and will stand at 30 feet tall, inspired by 19th-century quilt patterns.

The sculpture will be set in place on the plaza near where Jean Dubuffet's Monument with Standing Beast once stood. Google also released new images depicting its renovated atrium, which will feature a circular terraced seating area and retail space.

Meanwhile, a historic South Side building, the Yale Building, has been fined for violating Chicago's cooling ordinance, requiring certain buildings to have air conditioning when the heat index exceeds 80 degrees. The owner of the building claims that the issue has been fixed and will be replaced this fall.
