Google Ireland Hit with €403M Fine over Location Data Practices
Google Ireland has been fined €403 million by Ireland's data watchdog following a six-year probe into how it processed users' location data. The Irish Data Protection Commission said that Google was fined for violating Ireland's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The investigation, which began in 2018, focused on whether Google had breached GDPR rules when processing users' location data. The commission found that Google had indeed violated the regulation and imposed a €403 million fine.
Google has not commented on the fine or the investigation. The company has faced numerous regulatory actions in recent years over its handling of user data, but this is one of the largest fines it has received to date.
