Google Play is expanding its offerings with new features designed to enhance app creation, discovery, and gaming experiences. The platform is now allowing users to build custom Android apps using Google AI Studio and launch them privately on their own devices, without needing a developer account. This feature, rolling out today in select markets for users aged 18 and over, will eventually enable sharing these personal apps with friends and family, with the option to graduate to a professional developer account later.
The discovery of content across various screens is also being improved. The updated Play Store adapts to vehicle screens in cars with Google built-in and offers an immersive 3D browsing experience on XR devices. Additionally, apps optimized for large screens are prominently displayed on Googlebook. Sports Topic Pages now cover popular soccer leagues, making it easier to follow live scores and access streaming apps.
For gamers, Google Play is introducing Game Finder, which uses Gamer DNA to recommend games based on individual preferences and playing styles. This tool, rolling out in English to U.S. users today, allows users to specify genres and mechanics to refine their recommendations. Game Playlists will also let users curate and share collections of games, with the ability to explore other gamers’ lists soon.
New social features include Sprints, which are 48-hour micro-challenges for groups of players, and Sidekick, an in-game overlay for recording 30-second Playbacks. Community Posts allow users to ask and answer questions about games directly on their detail pages, with support for developer posts and official announcements coming soon.
