Google Settles UK Monopoly Abuse Lawsuit for $217 Million
A long-running dispute between Google and British app developers has come to an end. The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has approved a multimillion-dollar settlement, which will see Google pay out £160 million (approximately $217.3 million) in compensation to the affected developers.
The lawsuit, which lasted for two years, accused Google of abusing its dominant position in the market by forcing developers to release their projects exclusively on the Google Play store and charging an 'unfairly high' commission of 30%.
Although Google did not admit guilt, it agreed to settle the case last month. Under the terms of the agreement, £100 million (approximately $135.8 million) will be allocated to cover the developers' legal costs.
