Google Slapped with EUR 403 Million Fine Over Location Data Handling
Google has been fined EUR 403 million by Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) over its handling of location data. The investigation, led by the DPC as the company's lead supervisory authority, began in February 2020 following complaints from several European consumer rights groups.
The complaint was lodged by BEUC (European Consumer Organisation representing 44 consumer groups from 31 countries), and it raised concerns about Google's processing of location data for specific services and products. The DPC found that Google had breached EU data protection rules, leading to the significant fine.
