Google Slashes Free Access to Gemini AI Models in Mid-October Restructuring
Google has announced plans to restrict free access to its Gemini AI models. Starting October 9, users without a paid subscription will be limited to the Flash-Lite model, while those with Google AI Plus subscriptions will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash but lose access to the Pro model.
The changes come as Google seeks to compete with other top-tier AI models like GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5. The Gemini 4 Argon model, launched recently by Google, is also part of this effort.
Subscribers to Google's higher-tier plans, including Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra, will continue to enjoy full access to the models and features.
