Google Snags Spirit Airlines' Business Data for $10 Million
Google has acquired internal business data from bankrupt Spirit Airlines for $10 million in a deal that highlights the growing value of proprietary corporate information in AI development.
The package includes employee emails, Microsoft Teams messages, spreadsheets, calendars, and data covering marketing, operations, and productivity, but does not include customer data or personally identifiable information.
The data will be de-identified before being transferred to Alphabet, the parent company of Google. The acquisition is seen as a strategic move by Google to improve its AI models and workplace productivity tools using authentic examples of real-world business workflows.
Spirit Airlines' bankruptcy has created an opportunity for its internal data to be treated as a saleable asset, with AI company Mercor reportedly submitting a competing $7.5 million offer for the data.
