Google Unveils Gemini 4 AI Model Argon, Challenges OpenAI and Anthropic
Alphabet's Google has announced its new top-shelf artificial intelligence model, called Argon. The model is part of Google's Gemini 4 generation and is designed to compete with rival AI models like OpenAI's Astra and Anthropic's Opus.
The Argon model is larger in size than Google's previous line of top-tier 'Pro' models, according to a company spokesperson. It is built for complex workloads and is comparable to frontier models on key coding and cyber benchmarks, the spokesperson said.
Google is providing the Argon model to select cybersecurity partners and is participating in the Trump administration's voluntary process for pre-release model access. A timeline for the model's public release has not been provided.
