Google has provided an update on its plans to renovate the Thompson Center in Chicago. The tech giant has been working on transforming the building into a vibrant hub for community programming and cultural events.

The renovation plans include a 30-foot-tall public sculpture created by artist Sanford Biggers, inspired by quilt patterns from Illinois and beyond. The sculpture will be composed of glazed terra cotta panels, offering a contrast to the original glassy and rounded headquarters.

In addition to the sculpture, Google aims to create an atrium and plaza that serves as a hub for community programming and cultural events. The space will also provide direct access to six CTA 'L' lines.

Google is also partnering with After School Matters to commission a student-designed art piece for the retail concourse, supporting Chicago youth through this initiative. Furthermore, Google has partnered with A Better Chicago to help students thrive in school.
