Google's Gemini Model Sparks Hope of Closing AI Gap
Alphabet's (GOOGL) stock is rising in pre-market trading on Wednesday as investors react to reports that Google may release a new Gemini AI model, Gemini 3.8 Flash, today.
The model reportedly boasts improved coding capabilities and has been preferred by some Google engineers over Anthropic's Opus model in internal tests using the Jetski coding tool.
Gemini 3.8 Flash is designed to be faster and more efficient than larger models, making it useful for high-volume AI workloads.
This news comes as PwC released a report stating that global investment in AI infrastructure could reach $31.6 trillion through 2050, with annual data-center capex rising from about $800 billion in 2026 to $1.8 trillion by 2050.
