Google's Gemini Takes Over Phone Calls with 'Call for Me' Feature

Google has introduced an experimental feature called 'Call for Me' powered by Gemini, which allows users to make phone calls without having to sit on hold. This feature is available exclusively to Pixel 11 series smartphone owners in the US who subscribe to Gemini and run the Phone by Google beta.

The tool uses modern large language models to handle routine phone calls, navigate automated menu trees, and wait patiently for a human representative to answer.

According to Google, Gemini can call businesses to inquire about hours of operation, product availability, service quotes, and appointments. The AI assistant will explicitly introduce itself as speaking on behalf of the user and provide a live text transcript in real-time, allowing users to monitor the conversation and step in if necessary.

The feature is still in its experimental phase and is being gradually rolled out to eligible users. This means that not every Pixel 11 owner with Gemini and Phone by Google beta will have access to 'Call for Me' just yet.
