Google's Song Search Gets Background Listening Upgrade
The Google app is working on an overhaul of its Song Search feature, which could introduce background listening capabilities.
This would allow users to identify songs even when they switch apps, with a notification appearing when a song is identified.
However, the microphone will not stay active for long due to battery concerns, and a notification will appear after 10 seconds if no result is available, prompting the user to tap to search again.
The new feature may also redirect users to an AI Mode result when tapping on the identified song, rather than taking them to standard Search results as it currently does.
This update could be inspired by the Google Pixel's Now Playing feature, which offers a similar notification feature for song identification. However, that feature was removed a few months ago and restored this week.
