Hate Against Indian Americans: A Growing Problem in the US
Ruben Navarrette recently wrote about an alarming trend of racism and bigotry targeting Indian Americans in the United States. According to Navarrette, his friends from that community have shared their experiences with him, highlighting the toxic brew of hate, fear, and prejudice they face.
The issue began when some on the right floated the idea of cutting back on H-1B visas, which many Indian immigrants rely on for work. What started as a debate over visa abuse quickly turned into a nativist screed against Indian workers.
Navarrette mentions Nick Fuentes, a 28-year-old podcaster with over 1 million followers, who repeatedly attacked Usha Vance's daughter, calling her a 'race mixer' and using ethnic slurs. He also targeted Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian American Republican candidate for governor of Ohio.
Most recently, Bo French, the Republican nominee for the Texas Railroad Commission, posted a photo on X accusing the University of Texas at Austin's admissions office of prioritizing foreign students over Texans.
