IBM Outperforms Quantum Rivals Despite Losing Money
In September 2025, 24/7 Wall St. published an article predicting that IBM would be the next Nvidia due to its profitable track record, dividend increases, and long history of working on quantum computing.
The pick was supposed to generate four-figure returns, but one year later, it has lost money, yet still outperformed every pure-play rival in the sector.
IBM declined 19.09% over the past year, moving from $272.72 to $220.67, whereas IonQ fell 30.63%, D-Wave down 33.7%, and Rigetti down 46.21%.
The verdict is mixed: the relative call was correct, but the absolute call was wrong, as all positions lost money.
