IBM Secures $2 Billion Funding Boost for Quantum Foundry
IBM has secured a $1 billion Commerce Department award for its Anderon subsidiary. This is in addition to the $1 billion that IBM will invest on its own, bringing the total funding to $2 billion.
Anderon operates a 300-millimeter quantum-wafer foundry in Albany, New York, making IBM a significant player in the quantum supply chain. The facility produces technology for superconducting qubits, input-output signaling and readout components, with additional architectures expected to follow.
IBM's share price gained approximately 0.2% to $237.87 on Thursday morning, but remains about 2% below its estimated value of $242.72. The bigger unknown is commercialization, as IBM has not disclosed customers, purchase commitments, wafer volumes or expected Anderon revenue.
