India's AI Ambitions Threatened by Talent Drain
India's potential to break into the world's top artificial intelligence (AI) nations within a few years is hindered by its inability to retain talent, according to Vala Afshar, Chief Digital Evangelist of Salesforce. Speaking on the sidelines of Dreamforce in San Francisco, Afshar noted that there is a 'gravitational pull' for technology firms like Salesforce to recruit the best and brightest engineers globally.
Afshar attributed this talent drain to Indian software founders who now prefer to base themselves in Silicon Valley from day one and build their teams there. This shift has been a change from previous years when these founders would keep most of their teams at home and send a single leader abroad to lead sales.
Afshar emphasized the importance of retaining talent for India's AI rise, warning that if it fails to hold on to its engineers and founders, it may not be able to reach its full potential in the field. He believes that with the right strategy, India can compete with the world's top AI nations.
