Israel Second in Global Cyberattacks Ranked by Microsoft Report
Israel has been ranked second globally in a new report on cyberattacks, trailing only the United States. Microsoft's 2026 Digital Defense Report, released on Thursday, identified Israel as the top target in the Middle East, with 210 observed cyberattacks. The United States led the index with 531 incidents, followed by Taiwan (193) and Japan (172). The United Kingdom was fifth with a much lower count.
The report highlighted a 21% increase in ransomware attacks in Israel since 2025. Iran was cited as a primary source of cyber threats, conducting extensive campaigns against Israel and other regional adversaries, particularly since the onset of the US-Israeli conflict. Iranian forces have reportedly expanded their cyber and influence operations to disrupt military and information activities.
Yossi Karadi, Head of the National Cyber Directorate, emphasized the ongoing cyber warfare facing Israel. He stated, "The State of Israel is in an intense campaign in cyberspace and stands at the forefront of global threats." Karadi noted that maintaining functional continuity under such threats is a result of coordinated efforts involving government bodies, the cyber industry, and global companies.
Karadi also underscored the growing role of artificial intelligence in cyber warfare, noting its ability to accelerate attacks and alter the cyber landscape. He pledged to continue developing advanced capabilities and strengthening national resilience, stating that victories in cyberspace are often "quiet victories" expressed in blocked attacks and prevented damage.
