Israeli Navy Eyes Boeing P-8 Poseidon Acquisition Amid Growing Submarine Threats
The Israeli Navy is considering purchasing Boeing's P-8 Poseidon aircraft to expand its covert maritime operations and counter growing submarine threats. The commander of the Israeli Navy, Maj.-Gen. Eyal Harel, met with a senior Boeing executive to discuss the company's latest developments and advanced weapons systems.
The P-8 Poseidon is considered one of the world's leading reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft, designed for advanced maritime missions. It has been purchased by several countries, including the United States, India, Australia, and Germany, due to its reputation as a reliable and highly operational platform.
Israel currently has six submarines, with two more in the planning and construction stages. The Navy is reviewing its future submarine fleet requirements, considering expanding the fleet to eight vessels or retiring older submarines once new ones are delivered.
