Jet Lands in Manchester with Minutes to Spare Amid Stormy Weather

A passenger jet carrying 171 people narrowly landed in Manchester after severe weather and a series of diversions left it with only minutes to spare. The Boeing 737 was flying from Pisa, Italy, to Prestwick, near Glasgow, on October 3 last year, but was diverted via Edinburgh due to Storm Amy.

The aircraft encountered three wind shear events during its approach to Prestwick and Edinburgh, prompting the pilots to declare a fuel emergency. The crew's request to divert to Manchester was initially refused, but they eventually received clearance after communication breakdowns within the airport were addressed.

The plane landed safely at Manchester Airport with just 363kg (800 Ibs) of fuel remaining, less than one-third of its final reserve fuel. Investigators found that the initial refusal of the diversion request appeared to be due to a breakdown in communication.
