Lawsuit Targets AI Companies Over Alleged Secret Slowdown Pact
A new lawsuit claims that Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google made an illegal agreement to slow their AI development pace.
The plaintiffs argue that the companies' coordination on September 12th, when Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay urging industrywide cooperation on slowing down advancements for enhanced safety measures, had an anticompetitive effect on consumers.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind's co-founder and chair Demis Hassabis publicly responded to Amodei's proposals in agreement that same day.
The lawsuit claims that this coordination is a violation of antitrust laws and aims to reduce the value consumers get from paid AI subscriptions.
