Malaysia Airlines Nears Boeing 787-10 Order to Replace Leased A350s
Malaysia Airlines is close to finalizing an order for around 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, according to people familiar with the negotiations cited by Bloomberg. This would mark the Malaysian flag carrier's entry into the 787 family and bring Boeing back into MH's widebody segment.
The move would replace the seven Airbus A350-900s the company operates on lease, which have contracts expiring in the early 2030s. The package would also add three extra aircraft to support long-haul growth, with earliest delivery positions offered by Boeing beginning in 2031, ahead of those available from Airbus.
Bloomberg reported that GE Aviation offered more favorable engine terms than Rolls-Royce, which tipped the balance in favor of Boeing. However, neither MAG nor the manufacturers confirmed the deal.
