McDonald's Q2 US Sales Growth Slows Amid Overwhelming Promotional Offers
McDonald's reported slower US sales growth in the second quarter due to an overabundance of promotional offers, including a disappointing World Cup campaign.
The fast-food chain cited stronger performance in Germany, Australia, Britain, and Japan but saw weakness in France and China.
US restaurants were overwhelmed with 'too many deployments,' according to McDonald's CEO Christopher Kempczinski, who stated that the company doesn't have a strategy problem but simply didn't execute well enough in the second quarter.
The average check size increased in the US, but guest counts fell. Profits edged up 5% to $2.4 billion, while revenues rose 4% to $7.1 billion.
