Merck's Remigromig Shows Promise in Diabetic Macular Edema Trial

Merck's experimental treatment remigromig has shown promising results in treating diabetic macular edema. In a Phase 2b/3 trial, remigromig met its primary endpoint by demonstrating non-inferiority to ranibizumab in measuring best-corrected visual acuity change at week 52.

The company reported that both the 0.5 mg and 0.8 mg doses of remigromig showed comparable results to ranibizumab, a widely used treatment for diabetic macular edema.

However, the trial also revealed higher rates of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, and treatment discontinuations due to adverse events among patients receiving remigromig compared to those receiving ranibizumab.
