Michael McDonald, the legendary lead singer of The Doobie Brothers and solo artist, has been living with guilt for decades after giving up his teenage son for adoption. But in a remarkable turn of events, the five-time Grammy winner finally connected with his long-lost son, Michael Goessling, through genetic testing company 23andMe.

Goessling, now 59 years old, had been a huge fan of McDonald's music since he was eight years old. He registered with 23andMe 15 years ago to determine if there were any medical issues he might have inherited from his biological parents as he prepared to become a father himself.

A year ago, Goessling received an email from Dylan, McDonald's son, which read 'Michael Goessling, St. Louis, Missouri, half brother.' The connection was instant, and Goessling soon met with both his birth mother, Diane, and McDonald.
