Michigan's Antitrust Lawsuit Against Energy Giants Tossed by Federal Judge

A federal judge has dismissed Michigan's lawsuit against four major energy companies: BP, Chevron, Exxon, and Shell. The suit alleged that these companies conspired to suppress alternative energy sources like solar panels and electric vehicles, driving up prices for consumers in Michigan.

The ruling, issued by U.S. District Judge Jane M. Beckering on September 22, found that Michigan lacked standing to sue under antitrust laws. The judge wrote that the state's claims were too distant from the alleged conspiracy and did not meet the requirements for antitrust standing.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office has stated that it disagrees with the ruling and is reviewing its options. The Department of Justice welcomed the decision, saying it would make states 'rethink the use of lawfare to enact climate change policy.'

The dismissed lawsuit follows similar dismissals in other states, including Delaware, New York, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico.
