A deal has been reached between Microsoft and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) regarding the safety and privacy of artificial intelligence in schools. The agreement includes 10 legally enforceable protections, with one key provision being that Microsoft cannot use teachers' or students' data to improve an AI model.

The exception to this rule is for 'narrow safety and security' circumstances, according to Microsoft. If the company violates the agreement, it could face liability for a breach of contract.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten praised the agreement, stating that it sets a 'high bar for child privacy and AI safety.'
