Microsoft Boosts Dividend Again Amid AI Spending Pressures
Microsoft (MSFT) has raised its dividend by 8%, marking another quarter of steady growth for the tech giant's shareholder returns. The new quarterly dividend is $0.98 per share, payable on December 10.
This increase brings Microsoft's total dividend payout to $3.64 per share for fiscal year 2026, a significant boost from its $1.56 per share in 2017.
While the company's strong cash generation and cloud growth provide support for its shareholder-return strategy, aggressive investment in artificial intelligence (AI) is putting pressure on free cash flow.
Microsoft's AI spending has grown significantly, with a 43% increase in Azure and other cloud services in the fourth quarter. However, meeting this demand requires substantial capital investment, which could constrain dividend increases and share repurchases if AI monetization fails to keep pace.
