Microsoft Delves into Gulf with $10B AI Infrastructure Push
Microsoft is set to invest over $10 billion in Gulf AI infrastructure by 2030. The investment will focus on building cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure across four Gulf nations: Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
The move aims to improve network reliability, data sovereignty, and workforce training. Microsoft is routing over $400 million into subsea and terrestrial cable systems to strengthen cross-border data flows and network reliability across the region.
The decision was tied to regional instability by Brad Smith, Microsoft's vice chair and president, who stated that 'the Middle East conflict has shown that digital resilience is deeply connected to digital sovereignty.'
