Microsoft Patent Aims to Integrate Ads into Free-To-Play Games at Strategic Points
Microsoft has filed a patent application for a system that would allow free-to-play games to pause at strategic points after an initial ad-free period. According to TechSpot, these pause points could include the end of a boss fight, completion of a quest, cutscenes, and loading screens.
The system is titled 'Contextually Aware Management of Interactive Software Application Access.' This means that the game would display ads at specific moments during gameplay, such as after completing a challenging section or watching a cutscene. The ad-free period would likely be intended to keep players engaged without interruptions.
