Microsoft Research Asia, Singapore Marks First Year of Operation

Microsoft's Research Asia, Singapore (MSRA, Singapore) marked its first year of operation, having opened in July 2025 as a hub for frontier AI research. The lab aims to build connections between Microsoft's global research community and Singapore's innovation ecosystem.

According to Dr. Lidong Zhou, corporate vice president at Microsoft and managing director of MSRA, the lab has made significant progress in its first year, growing its team, deepening partnerships, and exploring how frontier AI research can create real-world value.

The lab focuses on four pillars: next-generation AI models and agentic systems, domain-specific AI for real-world impact, AI-native research practices, and ecosystem and talent development. It has partnered with Singapore's healthcare industry to develop multimodal healthcare AI and self-evolving diagnostic agents.
