Microsoft Stock Split: When Will It Happen?
Microsoft's stock price has been hovering around $518, just 5% away from its record close of $542 set in October. The last time Microsoft split its stock was in February 2003, and it hasn't announced any plans to do so again. However, the company's board used to split shares nearly every time they got pricey.
Between 1987 and 1999, Microsoft split its stock eight times when the price was between $98 and $178 before the split took effect. The 2003 split was at a pre-split price of about $48, which is much lower than the current price. In fact, Microsoft's shares have been above every price at which it decided to split for most of the past six years.
Despite this, some analysts might argue that a split could be due given the company's growth. Microsoft's fiscal 2026 revenue rose 18% to $331.8 billion, and non-GAAP earnings per share grew 22% to $17.28. However, the stock price is still relatively low compared to its peers like Nvidia and Broadcom.
Nvidia announced a 10-for-1 split in May 2024, while Broadcom did so a month later. Netflix also announced a 10-for-1 split in October 2025. However, these stocks were much more expensive than Microsoft's when they decided to split.
