Microsoft Surge Lifts Dow as Meta's AI Gambit Falls Flat
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.8% on Friday, leading other major market indexes higher. Microsoft was the top contributor to this gain, increasing by 4.1% and adding 120 points to the Dow.
This surge came after Microsoft repositioned its Copilot app as a pure enterprise product, effectively ceding the consumer AI chatbot market to competitors like OpenAI, Alphabet, and Meta.
Meta, on the other hand, took the opposite approach, announcing plans for its Muse agent in AI glasses and previewing a pocket-sized gadget called Charm. However, investors were unimpressed with this move, causing Meta's stock to drop by 3.6%.
