Microsoft Taps Climate Expert Melanie Nakagawa as Chief Sustainability Officer

Melanie Nakagawa has taken on a new role as Chief Sustainability Officer at Microsoft. She leads the company's global sustainability strategy, aiming to make significant progress towards its goals of being carbon negative, water positive, and zero waste by 2030.

Nakagawa brings a wealth of experience in environmental policy and climate change from her previous roles in government and private sectors. At Microsoft, she champions the company's tech-driven climate strategy, helping navigate the energy demands of its AI and data centre expansion.

Under Nakagawa's leadership, Microsoft has built a global renewable energy portfolio surpassing 34 gigawatts across 24 countries. She oversees efforts to expand water replenishment initiatives while leveraging AI capabilities to scale global climate solutions.
