Microsoft to Showcase AI-Powered Surface Devices at October 7 Event
Microsoft is set to unveil its latest advancements in local AI at an event on October 7, with a strong focus on Nvidia's RTX Spark technology. The event, billed as a Windows and Surface affair, is expected to showcase products like the Surface Laptop Ultra and the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, both powered by Nvidia's cutting-edge hardware.
The RTX Spark N1X chip, built on TSMC's 3nm node, combines a 20-core Grace CPU and a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, offering up to 1 petaflop of AI compute power. This super-SoC design allows for offline AI processing with models up to 120 billion parameters, eliminating the need for data centers or internet connections.
Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra will feature a 15-inch mini-LED display, a 30% larger haptic touchpad, and a dual-fan thermal system. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, aimed at developers, will run Windows 11 Pro and include pre-configured tools for AI development. Both devices highlight Microsoft's push towards AI-ready hardware and software.
The event will also address enhancements for Windows on Arm, including kernel-level support for agentic AI tools and optimizations for the Prism translation layer. This marks a strategic shift towards local and agentic computing, positioning Windows as a premier platform for AI development.
