Microsoft Unveils Quantum Research Center at University of Maryland
Microsoft has opened a new Quantum Research Center at the University of Maryland's Discovery District. The center will serve as a hub for next-generation quantum technologies, aiming to transform various sectors of the economy and society.
The research center is part of the Capital of Quantum Initiative, a public-private partnership between the state, the university, and private partners. This initiative aims to catalyze over $1 billion in investments in Maryland's quantum industry.
Since its announcement, the state and the University of Maryland have secured more than $500 million in pledged investments. These funds will support academics, workforce development, and technical support for the growing quantum ecosystem.
Key players such as IonQ and QuEra have already established a presence in the Discovery District, with plans to expand their operations. Additionally, Riverlane has announced that it will set up its U.S. headquarters in Maryland.
