Moderna Stock Surges on mRNA Cancer Vaccine Breakthrough
Moderna's stock has skyrocketed by 597 percent in just three months, from €19.36 to near €135, following the successful Phase 3 trial of its mRNA-based cancer vaccine intismeran autogene.
The trial, which involved 1,137 patients with resected stage IIB-IV melanoma, showed that the vaccine extended both relapse-free survival and survival without distant metastases when administered alongside Merck's immunotherapy Keytruda.
This breakthrough marks the first late-stage success for an mRNA cancer vaccine in history and validates Moderna's underlying platform beyond infectious disease, according to Bank of America analyst Alec Stranahan.
Analysts have been upgrading their price targets and ratings, with some expressing caution about the stock's high valuation, citing its 175 percent surge in 30 days and trading at 115 percent above its 50-day moving average.
