Modi Meets Semiconductor Chiefs to Drive Indian Industry Growth
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with global semiconductor CEOs at a roundtable discussion ahead of Semicon India 2026. The event, which ran from Thursday to Saturday, aimed to boost India's semiconductor growth and development.
The meeting brought together top executives from companies such as SEMI, Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron Ltd, Fujifilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semiconductor Devices, and IBM Research.
During the discussion, Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and industry to shape India's technology future. He highlighted the country's strong foundation in talent, technology adoption, and infrastructure, calling for greater industry participation in skilling, innovation, and emerging technologies like AI and Quantum Computing.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the target of training one crore people in AI, stating that India's talent pool combined with global industry expertise can create significant opportunities.
Fujifilm announced an investment of ₹800 crore for a new greenfield semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in India, aligning with the government's vision under the ISM 2.0.
