A McDonald's customer in Westerly, Rhode Island was left appalled after discovering a mysterious black substance on their chicken sandwich. The customer shared a photo of the sandwich on Reddit, which showed a dark, ash-like substance covering part of the bun and patty.

The customer claimed that they had received the sandwich from a McDonald's location in Westerly, Rhode Island and was shocked by what they saw. 'Nice surprise on my McDonald's chicken sandwich! Never going to the Westerly RI mcdonalds again,' they wrote.

Other Reddit users were horrified by the photo and questioned how the sandwich had made it through the restaurant before reaching the customer. Some joked that someone may have used the sandwich as an ashtray, while others were more serious in their concerns.

The original poster later updated the thread to confirm that the substance had been identified as mold. 'It's mold. They confirmed and refunded. Pretty gross,' they wrote.
