NASA Boosts Support for Troubled Boeing Astronaut Capsule

NASA is stepping up support for Boeing's troubled astronaut capsule to get it back in operation as soon as possible. The agency will provide additional funding and resources to help fix the problems that caused a botched mission in 2024, which was later classified as a crew-endangering 'Type A mishap.'

The Starliner capsule had issues during its test flights, including being stuck at the International Space Station for nearly a year. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced on Monday that Boeing should be ready to launch a new and improved Starliner to the space station by December, but with cargo only, no crew.

Astronauts will not strap in until 2028 due to the need for further safety redesigns. Manager Dana Weigel emphasized that everyone must be confident that all of Starliner's problems have been resolved before putting astronauts back on board.
