Nvidia and AMD GPUs See Sharp Price Hikes in Europe
Nvidia GPUs in Europe have surged in price by 41% since June, while AMD GPUs have risen by 28%, according to data from PriceSquirrel. The figures are based on a fixed basket of 179 Nvidia and 71 AMD graphics card models tracked across 27 EU retailers in nine countries. As of the week ending September 28, the average price for Nvidia GPUs was €1,107, up from €783 at the end of June. AMD GPUs averaged €826, up from €644 over the same period.
The price increases occurred differently for each brand. Nvidia’s average price jumped from €906 to €1,094 in just four weeks from July 27, representing a 21% increase in a month, before stabilizing between €1,027 and €1,098. AMD’s rise was more gradual, climbing from €786 on September 7 to €820 on September 28.
Despite reports from TechPowerUp citing an expected 10% price hike by AMD in Q4 due to TSMC raising wafer prices, PriceSquirrel has not observed any significant step change in AMD’s pricing. Since the report on September 17, AMD GPUs have only risen by 4.8%, while Nvidia GPUs increased by 7.6%. PriceSquirrel notes it is too early to confirm or debunk AMD’s reported price increase.
The rising costs of GPUs reflect a broader trend in PC component prices. Acer’s chairman predicted a potential 20% increase in PC prices in Q4, driven by rising memory contract costs. For PC VR owners, the higher GPU prices are particularly concerning, as performance heavily depends on the graphics card.
