Nvidia Invests in Sovereign AI Pioneer Cohere
Nvidia, led by CEO Jensen Huang, has made another significant investment in an AI company. This time it's Cohere, a Toronto-based startup that specializes in 'sovereign AI', which enables organizations to build and deploy their own AI models on-premises, keeping their data secure within their own servers.
Cohere is valued at $20 billion after raising funds from the Canadian government and Germany. The company has already secured deals with major clients like Royal Bank of Canada, Oracle, and Bell Canada. Its flagship product, North, allows these clients to deploy AI agents on their own servers.
Nvidia's investment in Cohere is significant because it supports Jensen Huang's long-held stance that organizations should build their own AI capabilities rather than relying on cloud-based services. By backing Cohere, Nvidia is essentially investing in its own demand for hardware, as more companies adopt sovereign AI and require the necessary infrastructure.
This move follows similar investments by Nvidia in Nebius and CoreWeave. With a portfolio worth over $63 billion, Nvidia continues to solidify its position in the AI infrastructure market.
