Nvidia Slams Brakes on AI Chip Server Sales with Price Hike
Nvidia has announced that it will increase prices for its AI chip servers by over 15% due to rising memory costs. This move affects customers who use Nvidia's Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell chip families, with prices varying depending on the chip generation and memory configuration.
The price hike will apply to systems shipped starting in early 2027, impacting companies such as Microsoft, Alphabet's Google, and Oracle. These hyperscalers will absorb the higher costs within their AI infrastructure budgets.
The root cause behind the increase is the soaring cost of server DRAM, which has roughly doubled in the first quarter of 2026 alone. Memory now accounts for approximately 25% of what a high-end AI server rack costs to build, up from a much smaller share just two years ago.
