Nvidia stock nears 6 trillion market cap milestone
Nvidia's stock is inching closer to an unprecedented $6 trillion market capitalization, a milestone no other company has achieved, according to Bloomberg. The company's shares have surged 28% this year, pushing its market cap to just below $5.8 trillion. Nvidia has been the biggest contributor to the S&P 500's 14% gain in 2026, driven by strong revenue projections and a $150 billion share buyback authorization. CEO Jensen Huang described the buyback as a reflection of the company's long-term confidence, calling Nvidia 'the world's first and only growth value stock.'
Analysts highlight Nvidia's appeal as both a growth and value play, particularly in an environment of rising interest rates. Jim Awad of Clearstead Advisors, which holds Nvidia stock, noted that the company is seen as a safe haven from economic damage caused by higher rates. Larry Tentarelli of Blue Chip Daily pointed to a broader recovery in semiconductor stocks, fueled by Meta Platforms' Muse AI agent and a rotation back into large-cap tech names.
The rally is particularly notable given that Nvidia shares were still down 11% as recently as March 30. Doubts about AI infrastructure spending had weighed on the stock, but sentiment has since shifted toward the societal implications of AI technology. Nvidia's expansion in the AI sector includes $99 billion in equity investments in AI companies as of late July, up from $7 billion a year earlier. The company also agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.9 billion, a deal expected to close in early 2027.
