Nvidia Surpasses Apple with Record-Breaking $150 Billion Buyback
Nvidia's board of directors has approved an additional $150 billion in stock repurchase authorization, surpassing Apple's record set in 2024 as the largest single buyback increase in US corporate history. This brings Nvidia's total remaining repurchase capacity to $235 billion, which the company plans to execute by the end of fiscal 2028.
The move comes after a year where Nvidia has continued to generate staggering profitability, driven by its near-monopoly position in AI chips. According to Visible Alpha, Nvidia generated nearly $100 billion in free cash flow in its most recent fiscal year ended January, and is projected to more than triple to $329 billion by fiscal 2028.
Nvidia's founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company's growth is driven by the shift to AI and accelerated computing, allowing it to both invest in technology and return capital to shareholders. The buyback authorization reflects Nvidia's confidence in its long-term opportunity ahead.
